Hey everyone, how are you doing?
I’ll cut to the chase with this update: we’re here to tell you about WP Ultimo version 2.1 Release Candidate 2 and WP Ultimo 1.10.16.
WP Ultimo 2.1 RC 2
As I mentioned in the previous post about 2.1, we had hit a major roadblock when it came to two bugs that were introduced as we transitioned the codebase to fully support PHP 8.0 and 8.1: a huge performance hit for larger networks and limitation merging not working as expected.
After hours and hours of investigating, we finally narrowed the performance issue down to a recent upgrade made to the Freemius SDK and found the root cause of the limitations issue.
Although the original idea was to completely remove the Freemius SDK (something we’ll eventually do in the future), we managed to bypass the issue by forking the SDK and adding filters that allow us to short-circuit some of the routines they have that are not well-suited for multisite environments.
You can use the form below to download the RC2 build (you’ll need to enter your license key to download the file).
WP Ultimo 1.10.16
Today we’re also releasing version 1.10.16 of WP Ultimo 1.X (or Legacy).
It fixes some of the last incompatibilities, warnings, and errors users have found while running it in PHP 8.0 and 8.1 environments.
Some of these incompatibilities had escaped our initial testing. For example, one dependency was only loaded when the “Share errors with the Developers” option was enabled, immediately throwing a Fatal Error. Those were all patched and (hopefully), no more problems between 1.X and PHP 8 will surface from now on =)
This new version should appear as an update on your dashboard if you’re running 1.10.15 or earlier.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
